A Skymarathon is a discipline of skyrunning in which runs take place in high alpine terrain.
These races typically take place at altitudes of over 2,000 metres with steep climbs of at least 30 % and technical passages.
The routes lead over narrow mountain paths, scree fields, snow and rock, with less than 15 % of tarmac.
Ski marathons make extraordinary physical and mental demands:
Running in thin air over 2,000 metres
Often over 2,500 metres in altitude over distances between 0 and 45 km
Passages with snow, ice, rock and exposed ridges
Requires stamina, strength, coordination and mental strength
